Southwards to Devon

Uneventful trip south, drive, drive, drive etc. But waiting in Lancashire were my two sisters and two days of chat, chat, eat ,chat eat, chat etc. Not much more than catching up with news and eating even more...

The on to visit Barbara's brother on a quick flying visit...

Then, at last, Barbara got what she had been wanting to do for years - Devon. We headed for Torquay, where else, everyone's idea of the English Riviera. and ended u in a very nice hotel overlooking Torquay Bay. First night in Torquay, what else for dinner but fish 'n chips! And delightful it was - traditional sit down chippie, white bread and butter, lots of salt and vinegar and gallons of tea.

It came as a surprise to me that Greenway, Agatha Christie's holiday home, was only a few miles away, so we organised a trip the next morning.

And how better than to do so in a vintage bus. So, after 30 minutes of good commentary from our friendly bus driver and some noisy crash gear changes, plus some beautiful country lanes and views, we arrive at Greenway, a truly one-off National Trust site.

This is the only NT site we have been allowed to sit in the seats, pick up and look at the objects on display and generally have almost free run of the house - not quite, but almost.

After spending a fortune on souvenirs, we ended up with cream teas, only in Devon of course, and returned to Torquay and the temptation of even more fish 'n chips!

Next day, a walk along the cliff-tops proved a wee bit too scary for Barbara, so we took the next best thing, a slippery wet walk down to one of the beautiful hidden bays.

To be continued.......
